My photomontage

For my photomontage i chose to use my tv as one of my one image i took because with that tv i enjoy hours of fun and interest because with that tv i watch movies and series and also i play my videogames. Also as a background image on the tv i chose a desert road with tanks, explosions and one of the soldiers in the cover of my favourite videogame. I also added a sun to the right of the background to make it look more interesting since it was a desert. When i started my photomontage the only thing i could think of creating was this because i like to play videogames with violence and war in it but also when i was trying to look for a song i found that a song talking about war and violence would be best because war and violence is never suppose to be a good thing so I chose the song Gimme shelter by the Rolling Stones because it explains about about war, children and need of shelter.

Lyrics of Gimme shelter:
Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Ooh, see the fire is sweepin'
My very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

The floods is threat'ning
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I'm gonna fade away

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away

Chris Burden Transfixed

Title: Trans-fixed
Artist: Chris Burden
Date: 1974

Written Response:

This image is named Trans-fixed and is one of Chris Burdens artwork created in 1974. My first impression of this image is why is there a man lying down the back of a car, but I also thought what if this image was supposed to be of Burden being forced to be on the car as part of a type of torture or abuse. From this artwork I see a car and a man at the back of it without a shirt. One element of design being used in this image is Value because when you take even a quick glance at it you can tell there is lightness and darkness falling on the image adding contrast and enhancing areas of composition by adding texture especially to the car. From what I see in this work of art, Burden decided to choose a really dark blackout space which possibly is a room but all one would see is the car and Chris Burden on the back which grabs my attention the most. The theme of this artwork is violence and abuse because it looks like he is being forced to be on the back on the car with his arms spread out. I think Burden chose to create this work to relate to the cruelty in our world. Chris Burden seems to be a man who creates art using the genre of abuse and violence to show audiences pain. His actually intent of this artwork is displaying him as if he was being crucified and having both his hands hammered with nails to the car. After researching his actually intent I don’t really see the clarity of him being nailed to the car which I still don’t see but I have learnt to always try and see more into artist’s artworks.

Chris Burden Shoot

  1. The artist we decided to choose is Chris Burden. The title of the artwork is called shoot and it was created in 1971. My first impression of this artwork was why there is a gun in this image and why one of the guy is pointing the gun to the other. In this image I see a white wall that looks like a small room and the subject holding a rifle and aiming at the other subject.

  1. Variety or contrast is used in the artwork because the clothing, wall and floors in         this image create a cool and warm looking image and the wall and the subjects shirt in this image show a cool contrast while the pants and floor show a dark and warm contrast. The artist of this piece of artwork from what I see decided to choose a small room. One thing that grabs my attention is the rifle being held.

  1. From my perspective the theme of this artwork is based on violence or abuse since one man has a rifle pointed to the other man and the artists’ view of this world is probably about about cruelty and greed.

  1. Chris Burden created this art work because his intent was to relate to the Vietnam War and the American rights to bear arms. Now that I know the Burden’s original intent my feeling and thoughts have changed because to me its not just about violence and abuse but also about Americans wanting rights to bear arms. From this artwork I learnt that not all images u see is portrayed the way you or someone else might think.

This artwork is called Less Is More.
In this project i created 6 squares each with either different colour or size. In the first one i used a normal source of a plant. The plant i used was an orange which was in a normal size but black and white. In the second square used the same technique as the first but cropped the original design but retained its readability. The third square i cropped the design so that readability is no longer available and i also used black and white. In the fourth square used the same technique as the second square but everything that was black is now white and everything that was white is now black. In the Fifth square i used the same technique as the second square but i added one more colour which was green. In the last square i also used the same technique but coloured the design in its full colour.

Photomontage critique

John Heartfield
  Millions Stand Behind Me

 1932

This photomontage is by John Heartfield and is one of his photomontage created in 1932. My first impression of this photomontage is who is this man one the bottom right of the montage that looks like Adolf Hitler and why is the montage in French instead of English. I also then thought what if it was Hitler. After researching Heartfield’s original intent of this montage it was said that he specifically linked Hitler's electoral success with his courting of wealthy industrialists from the Rhineland. More generally, he gives pictorial punch to the commonplace idea that money fuels political power by implying that the Nazi salute is in fact a plea for cash. Also the title Der Sinn des Hitlergrusses mean the real meaning of the Hitler salute.
